Roger Plenty 1936-2025
We were very sad to learn of the death of Roger Plenty on 3rd October 2025. Roger's deeply felt concern led him to being the founder of QCOP and he continued his tireless work on our behalf up until his death, including leaving a substantial donation to QCOP in his will.
You can read more about Roger's work in establishing QCOP here and you can find a short piece about him by Cherry Foster here.
"This is more than just sad news. It’s a huge loss. The world will be much poorer without Roger. He did so much for the world of QCOP and never seemed to tire in the face of criticism and rejection of our cause." Nick Chetwood, QCOP.
QCOP has decided to name their annual Special Interest Lecture at BYM The Roger Plenty Lecture in his honour. The first Roger Plenty Lecture was held in March 2026.
American Friends have a group similar to QCOP which is a working group of Quaker Earthcare Witness. They time some of their meetings so that QCOP members can take part. One of their leaders is Richard Grossman who runs the website www.population-matters.org, not to be confused with the British charity Population Matters whose website is, confusingly, www.populationmatters.org. Richard can be reached through his website. Tom Cameron is the current clerk of the working group and may be reached at tomcamphoto@gmail.com.
