BREEDING GROUNDS
Journeymen Theatre’s play on the impact of the climate emergency on our personal lives is going around the country with great success. The actors portray the increasingly rocky marriage between Ingrid, a carer and climate activist, and her MP husband Stewart. His perspectives are based on political pragmatism, hers on a sense of urgency and the belief that change must begin with each individual. Ingrid is often very annoying and unreasonable. Stewart is maddeningly slow to concede a point. Neither of them has the whole truth; indeed there is no agreed answer to the issues they discuss. The end is tear-jerking.
The play makes the issues raised by the environmental crisis personal and domestic – grandchildren and their future, waste, travel, family size, effecting change, the costs to the environment of an ageing population, the slow processes of politics. A discussion afterwards allows the audience to share and consider their own situations.
“A very funny, interesting and thought-provoking play.”
“Such a complex issue, the future of our planet. Cannot boil it down to a limited number of ‘causes’ and ‘solutions’, so your play prompted us to think deeper and further about our own”
“thoroughly enjoyed your and David’s performances. A well written, relevant and topical piece that is conversationally generative and thought-provoking. ……. Bravo!”
“brought out the emotional element of the issues in our lives as we try to live sustainably, and the changes we need to make in family size, air miles, dealing with rubbish, pollution . . .”
“The actor/writers are very talented and it made for an intense experience.”
